As part of Google’s initiative to improve the services on phones which have yet to or wont be receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich Update, today they have update the Google Search App for Android. The update which will be compatible with Android 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 3.X (Honeycomb) devices will bring with it an updated and simplified User Interface, faster responses to your search queries, suggestions based on location and grouped by type, and you can now remove your history by long-pressing on the search term.

Google have also revealed some tips which can be used to make the service easier to use:

Tap the arrow to the right of a search suggestion or history item to add it to your search term before searching.
Get suggestions from other apps on your phone – check out searchable items in Search settings.
Long press on home screen to add the Google Search widget, if you don’t have it already, to access search faster.
