AT&T and T-Mobile file request to FCC for approval of Wireless Spectrum Transfer
As agreed to when the takeover of T-Mobile USA by AT&T fell through around mid-December, both companies have now sent off a request to U.S. FCC to have $1 Billion worth of AT&T’s Wireless Spectrum transferred to T-Mobile USA. While completion of the transfer hasn’t been given a finalised date T-Mobile are hoping to be done with this quickly
“This additional spectrum will help meet the growing demand for wireless broadband services,” said Tom Sugrue, T-Mobile’s senior vice president for government affairs, in an emailed statement. “We hope the FCC will move swiftly to approve the license assignments.”
And for AT&T this isn’t the end of their 2012 woes as they still have to pay T-Mobile’s parent company, Duetsche Telekom AG, $3 Billion dollars plus a enter seven-year 3G roaming agreement with T-Mobile as a result of the failed purchase.
